What You Need vs What You Want

If I asked you to tell me the difference between your needs and your wants, would you be able to tell me?'

Ok, let me help you:

need is something essential, important and of true necessity.

want is something that you would like to have.

So, now that that's been said, what are your own personal needs and what are your own personal wants?

Most of us believe our wants are actually our needs simply because we lack self control.  We want what we want when we want it.  We rarely accept delayed gratification. We don't want to wait.  If we can't have it now, we simply don't want it.

But what happens if we truly put our wants on pause to make sure that our needs are truly taken care of? What happens if you made a budget and actually stuck to it?

The first thing that you need to do, if you want to balance your needs and wants, is to define what your needs and wants are to you.  This is where you have to be real with yourself.  Makeup is NOT a need. Those black shoes are NOT a need especially if you already have a pair.  You do NOT need to go to the fast food restaurant when you just went to the grocery store yesterday.

Next, once you define your needs and wants, make a list of them.  In one section, list your needs and in another section, list your wants.

Finally, make sure that you take care of all (if not, majority) of your needs before you even think about entertaining your wants.

As I stated before, you will need self control to be able to not only define your needs from your wants but to follow through and focus on your needs first.  Once you put things (and even people) in their proper order and places, look forward to your life being more balanced, in order and flowing with ease.
