31 Days of Prayer: Day 9

Good Morning Everyone :)

To forgive means to give up resentment of or claim to requital for, as defined by Merriam Webster.  When we forgive someone, we are basically giving up the right to retaliate or seek revenge against that person. We are saying, you hurt me, you did this to me but I forgive you. Now some of us struggle with forgiveness because we believe that the people who mistreat and hurt us are getting away with it. I mean, cmon, if someone hurts us, we have every right to fire back right? According to Jesus, no.

For Day 9, we are going to pray for forgiveness. We are going to pray for God's forgiveness, the forgiveness of those we have wronged us  and also to forgive those who have wronged us.  Forgiveness frees us from all of the hurt and pain that we've carried and used as a shield for our hearts, vowing to never be hurt again. But the issue with not forgiving is it doesn't allow for God's love to shine. Now if you're struggling to forgive, be honest and tell God. Ask Him to help you to forgive and He will.

In these last days, forgiveness is not popular. It's not even welcomed in certain circumstances. But when we choose forgiveness, we're choosing love, we're choosing peace and most importantly, we're choosing God.

Sample prayer

"Father in the name of Jesus, I pray that You forgive me of my sins, sins of omission and sins of commission, sins done in thought, word and deed. And I thank You Lord for giving me a forgiving heart, that I may forgive those who trespass against me just as You oh God forgive me of my trespasses in Jesus name. Father, I confess that when I sin, it's You and You alone Who I sin against. Please forgive me and cleanse me of all unrighteousness.  Lord, I also pray that those who've I wronged will forgive me. I pray that You would place it in their hearts to forgive me so they may have peace. Finally, Lord, I pray that You put it in my heart to forgive those who've wronged me. Help me to cast all of my cares upon You because You truly do care for me. I thank You oh Lord for helping me as I admit that I struggle to let go and forgive, but I thank You that in my weaknesses You are made strong, in Jesus name Amen"
