Am I Disciple of Jesus?

Hey Lovebugs!

When you hear the word "Disciple", what comes to mind?  The 12 Disciples?  Followers of Jesus? Teachers? A Disciple is someone who accepts and helps to spread the teaching of Jesus Christ.  The reason for me asking this is… do you know that we are called to be Disciples of Jesus Christ? (Yeah, that smacked me in the face too!)  We are called to be His representatives, meaning we are suppose to walk like Him, talk like Him, think like Him and even act like Him.  If we take an honest look at ourselves, are we doing a good job of this?  *crickets*  Acts 13:47 says.. “… I have set thee to be a light to the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation to the ends of the earth.”  As followers of Christ, we are the light upon the earth!  How are others suppose to know about Jesus if we don’t show Him to them?  It’s not enough for His lost sheep to hear about Him through what the world says, they need to see Him!  And the way they see Him is by the way His REPRESENTATIVES live!  Yes, being a Christian is a LIFESTYLE, not just something we do on Sundays and Tuesday/Wednesday night bible studies. It’s our responsibility to make Him look good, to make Him look appealing so others will want to follow Him.  We are to model Christ-like behavior EVERYWHERE we go, regardless of what we’re doing!  Now, how do we do that you might ask?  Well, starting off with these two VERY important principles:

1. LOVE – In everything we do, say or think, it must be done in love.  I Corinthians 8:13 says “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity (love), I am become as a sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.”  Without love, NOTHING has meaning.  Everything Christ did on this Earth was centered on love so it has to be at the root of our Christian lifestyle!

2. FORGIVENESS – Just as Jesus is ready to quickly forgive us, we are called to quickly forgive others.  Forgiveness is NOT about the other person, it’s about us.  It’s about letting go and moving on.  I know, I know. They did you SO wrong so how could you POSSIBLY forgive them??  Well think about something.  Hasn't Christ forgiven you for not some but ALL of the things you've done?  Haven’t you said some things that you wish you could take back or even done some things that you are not proud of?  I know I have!  Now in no way am I saying that this is easy.  It is challenging.  But don’t block your blessings due to your unwillingness to forgive.  You never know what wonderful things God has waiting for you!

Change does not happen overnight so please do not beat yourself up if you have some things to work on.  If we’re struggling with being nice to others who aren't nice to us, we can ask God for help.  If we’re struggling with forgiving someone, we can ask God for help.  If there’s ANYTHING that we are struggling with, God is willing and able to help us!  And all we gotta do is ask!

Colossians 3:12 – 14:“Put therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercy, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.  And above all these things put on charity (love), which is the bond of perfectness.”

Amy :)
