Getting Our Financial Houses in Order!
Good Morning Lovebugs :) God is truly a God of order. When He created the Earth, He did so in precise, sequential order. Now since we are His children, we are called to attain that same level of order in our lives as well. We should have structure and order spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically and especially financially. A lot of us squirm in our seats when the topic of finances arises. Many people misquote I Timothy 6:10: “for the love of money is the root of all evil”. It’s not money that’s the root of evil, it’s the love of it! We know that we need money because it is a resource. We use it to take care of ourselves, our families, and our responsibilities. But when we mishandle money, we invite disorder, confusion and chaos in our lives God has given us the ability to attain wealth. Attaining wealth is the easy part. Maintaining the wealth is where it gets challenging. We are called to be good stewards over the resources that God places in our possessions. How can we expect God to give us a lot if we can’t handle a little bit? If we were to take a good look at our finances, what would we find? If we took a look at our checkbooks, what would we see? Most of us do the best that we can with what we have however I’m challenging us to do a little better. Here are some ways that we can better maintain our personal finances: Budgeting. Yes the dreaded “B” word. How can we maintain what we have if we don’t know what we have! A budget is a tool designed to help us keep track of the money that goes in and comes out. Having a clear financial picture will most certainly assist us in maintaining order in our finances. TITHE! Giving God 10% of whatever we earn is a GREAT place to start when maintaining our finances. God is the one who gives us wealth in the first place and He only requires us to give Him back 10%! I say that’s pretty nice of Him, isn’t it? Save. Setting aside money for a rainy day is very smart to do. We all know that things ALWAYS come up, so why not prepare for them? Establish needs and wants. Examples of needs are food, shelter, water, clothing and utilities. Examples of wants are cable (believe it or not), fast food lunches/dinner and jewelry. Now I’m not saying that we can’t buy something nice for ourselves but we have to make sure that our needs are taken care of FIRST! I believe that God wants His people to be prosperous and live in abundance. A lot of us may be praying to God to better our financial conditions but have we shown Him that we can be trusted? That we can be responsible, good stewards? Well, today is THE day to take a better look at our finances, make a plan and put it into action! Ready! Set! Go!! Ames :)
